keynesianism

why are keynesian economics so popular? while obviously they don't work?!

i guess it's like with marx, it is a secular religion, providing solace for man's fears.
i guess mostly it has also to do with the fact that it allows for smoothly, suger coated justification of increasing state power and allowing for quick bucks for those working for govt.
